The professional hair care brand Kérastase has just unveiled the world’s first smart brush – Kérastase Hair Coach. Designed in collaboration with Nokia-owned electronics company Withings, the smart hairbrush is aimed minimizing the risk of forceful hair brushing, which has been proven to cause breakage and split ends.
Powered by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies, the smart electronic brush is able to collect and show you data on your hair-brushing habits, which may, again, help you to take better care of your hair. It will also show you a list of product recommendations tailored just for you!
The cutting-edge brush is equipped with a microphone, an accelerometer, 3-axis load cells, and a gyroscope. It literally listens to your hair brushing patterns, and analyzes the speed and angle of your brush strokes. There are also special sensors that measure the pressure you’re applying to your hair, and conductivity sensors to detect whether you’re brushing your hair wet or dry. The brush also provides instant haptic feedback whenever you’re brushing too hard.
The brush looks just like your regular brush. It has a soft-touch handle and a mix of nylon and boar bristles. The handle houses two AA batteries, while a single circular sensor is visible in the middle of the brush. The sensors transfer data automatically via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to a free accompanying mobile app, which also takes into account weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, UV, and wind. The brush also gives a user a daily hair breakage score, calculates your real needs, and provides tips based on your hair type and brushing behavior.
