Avene Sun Care collection

Avène, the famous French dermo-cosmetic brand has recently launched two new sun care lines, which are specifically tailored for the U.S. market.

Even though the Pierre Fabre-owned cosmetic brand is one of the major players in the European market, the filters used in their products were not on the FDA approved list.  That’s why Avène developed a completely new sun care collection, aimed specifically at the USA consumer. The collection consists of two ranges, one containing chemical sunscreen, and one formulated with mineral fillers. Same as all other Avène products, the Sun Care collection is formulated with Avène Thermal Spring Water, which is known to soothe skin. The products are hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, oil-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and suitable for individuals with sensitive skin. To use them, follow the general recommendations: apply the formula 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every 2 hours, or immediately after towel drying, swimming or perspiring.

The backbone of the MINERAL range are non-nano mineral particles, namely titanium dioxide and zinc oxide filter. The word “non-nano” actually means that chemicals from Avène’s products do not penetrate too deeply into the skin. The solution is the safest and gentlest approach for sensitive skin, which also addresses consumers’ concern about the concept of nanotechnology.

Avène MINERAL Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ (Face) is a lightweight daily sunscreen for the face. The protective formula is based on non-nano mineral particles and antioxidant Vitamin E, it provides 8 hours of continuous hydration and up to 80 minutes of water resistance. A 38.5 mL (1.3 fl. oz.) bottle retails at $28.

Avène MINERAL Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ (Face and Body) can be used on both face and body. It provides maximum protection from both UVA and UVB rays, thanks to non-nano mineral particles and Vitamin E. The sheer, non-whitening formula also promises up to 24 hours of hydration and 80 minutes of water resistance. A 125 mL (4.22 fl. oz.) bottle retails at $36.

Avène’s chemical range uses a blend of avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate and octocrylene for broad-spectrum sun protection. The range is free from any known irritants, such as oxybenzone and octinoxate, which are shown to be hazardous for the endocrine system.
