Here is an interview with this expert where he gives advice on caring for over-processed hair, hair extensions, preventing split ends and more.
Hair extensions have been popular with the celebrity-base for the past few years. What recommendations do you have for the hair extension process and upkeep?
As far as extensions go, I prefer woman to experiment with clip in hair. It is of course temporary but it does not damage the hair in any way. If you prefer a more permanent extension like a bond, weave, or tape in, the most important thing is to have them taken out and REDONE no longer than every 3 months. Any longer than that the hair becomes damaged and tangle way too much.
You believe that women should work with their natural hair texture and not against it. What are the styling differences between straight and curly hair?
For the most part I do think woman should embrace their natural texture. It far more healthy on the hair and far less time consuming on the woman herself. If you have straight hair the best thing to do is to wash before you go to bed and allow the hair to dry with out blowing it out if you can then with a beveled flat iron just go over the bottom 3 or 4 inches just to give it a mor finished look. May bend the hair inward of flip it out or just straight depending on your mood. If you have curly hair you will most likely do the opposite, was your hair in the morning and with a mixture of Nexxus leave-in conditioner and Nexxus Alluring Curls apply form roots to ends, then scrunch the hair the possibly separate some or the strands for more definition. If you desire a more finished look a defuser attached to your blow dryer can be use light light until its mostly dry. Always try to leave some moisture in the hair so it doesn't frizz up.
What are five habits that contribute to hair breakage and split ends?
5 things woman do that cause split ends:
1. Pony tails. The constant overtension of the hair tents to break the hair off .
2. Brushing to hard through the hair is never good.
3. Over processing the hair with color to often.
4. Drastic changes in color , say from dark to light.
5. Avoiding cutting you hair in hopes to gain more length.
What tips would you recommend for over-processed hair?
For over processed hair, try visiting your stylist once a week for a deep conditioning treatment.
Having worked extensively in both Los Angeles and New York City, do you feel that climate has a huge impact on the hair’s appearance?
I absolutely know feel that the climate and weather conditions can result in a really great hair day or a really bad hair day. Your best bet is to have a back up plan for any style you have in mind just in case the weather is not your friend that day!
