MAC honors late diva Selena Quintanilla with an exclusive makeup collection

Earlier today, MAC Cosmetics announced its new makeup collection MAC + Selena Quintanilla, coming 2016! Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, known by the monoym Selena, is a late American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer, and certainly one of the most renowned Latino entertainers of the late 20th century. Unfortunately, she was tragically shot to death in 1995, but even 20 years after, the late singer continues to inspire people. She is the newest inspiration behind MAC’s upcoming makeup range, which will be created at a fan's request.

In 2015, 20 years after Selena’s passing, MAC is responding to a petition urging the beauty brand to commemorate the late diva. Somewhere in February 2015, a fan named Patty Rodriguez launched a Change.org petition for MAC Cosmetics to honor Selena with a limited edition makeup range. The fans asked MAC to create a line that represents the community that shops its makeup, and to honor the late singer who, as fans believe, would be a perfect MAC girl if she was alive. The petition had a goal of 5,000 signatures, but it made change with no less than 37,772 supporters!

In an interview for People, Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister revealed: "I am so excited that MAC Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena. Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day. If Selena were here, she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening."

Even 20 years after her death, people are obsessed with her extremely feminine beauty look – voluminous dark hair, bold eye, and signature red lip. There are so much tutorials on Youtube on how to do the Selena Look, and fans were even mocking up their fantasy product shots and fan art, in hopes that MAC would respond. Finally, MAC is honoring the star with a limited edition capsule collection, which will be released in the latter part of 2016. Until then, stay tuned for more information…
