Nouvelle Vague by Lancome Limited Edition Couture Makeup Bags

Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme is the name of the latest crossover project by this famous Parisian makeup brand. This time, Lancôme has partnered with three of the most renowned Parisian designers to create limited edition couture makeup bags.

Lancôme's new Nouvelle Vague project is realized in collaboration with Yiqing Yin, Alexandre Vauthier and Simon Porte Jacquemus, who have each designed their own versions of Lancôme's couture makeup bag. As its name suggests, the brand has taken inspiration for this project from La Nouvelle Vague movement (or the New Wave) a term that refers to an informal artistic movement of the late 1950s and 1960s, related to the European art cinema. La Nouvelle Vague offered a radical new type of cinematic approach, rejecting the idea of a traditional storyline, narrative styles and structures. Instead, La Nouvelle Vague emphasized the aspect of communication between the work of art and its spectator, using more realistic, more spontaneous methods of expression to truly engage the viewers, to make them think and feel about what they were watching, even beyond the illusion of moving images.

Similarly, the Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme project, takes inspiration from today’s Parisian catwalk, encouraging the designers to express their own distinctly different creative talents and embody the new movement in French fashion. Lancôme has asked them to imagine an ultra-limited edition luxury accessory related to make-up, while paying attention to one small detail: incorporating the iconic Lancôme rose into the design.

Yiqing Yin, who is also creative director of Leonard, has designed a cosmetics case that can be used as a handbag as well.

Simon Porte Jacquemus, one of the finalists of the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize, has designed something in-between a pouch and an evening bag, a candy-pink, waterproof, round couture bag with a distinctive vintage appeal.

Alexandre Vauthier’s creation is the Unvolder 7 bag, which is a convertible bag that can be used as a clutch or as a shoulder bag. His creation is made of black satin and it features a lambskin interior.

Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme couture makeup bags will be available in selected stores from mid-June 2014. The bags are issued in a limited edition that comprises of only 50 pieces.
