REVIEWER EXPERIENCE

Borghese sent me a number of these products and yesterday I tried the Purifying Mud Mask with pink peppercorn and pink grapefruit. I live in a hot, sunny climate and use a lot of sunscreen so I wanted something that would deeply cleanse my pores.

The first thing I noticed was the price: I'm used to paying around $26 USD for a 5oz jar of Kiehl's Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque or $3-$4 USD for 6 oz tubes of mud mask from the local drug store. The Fango Essenziali is $32.50 USD for a 7oz jar. So the price is rather similar to other major designer label products on the market and about ten times the price of Freeman and Queen Helene.

The next thing I noticed was the aroma. Whereas many products smell, well, like mud, this product had a light, sweet almost floral aroma. Nothing overwhelming but definitely pleasant and soothing.

A little bit goes a long way upon application; I applied the product to my forehead, cheeks and nose; I have a goatee so avoided the chin area.

I left the product on for about 10 minutes while I answered a phone call. I didn't experience the tight drying that I do with other products, but my skin definitely became taught. As you can see, the Purifying Mud Mask is a pale tan color, so I didn't end up looking like the Wicked Witch of the West.

I easily removed the mud with warm water and was surprised that I didn't feel like I needed a toner or moisturizer; my skin was soft rather than dry. 24 hours later there were no breakouts or irritation, and I generally have sensitive skin. For example, I broke out after using the Borghese Fango Active Mud.

All in all it was a great experience that I'd happily repeat once or twice a week. The brand suggests that the facial sheet masks can be used between mud treatments so I look forward to trying one of those in a couple days time. I would imagine these would make great gifts for bridesmaids or as stocking stuffers for the upcoming holiday season.

My final verdict: Smells great, feels great, no irritation, and at the higher end of the price spectrum.
