Two hands forming a heart shape

SUMMARY: Today I review two of Rituals' hand products - The Ritual of Ayurveda Hand Scrub with ginseng and ginkgo biloba, and The Ritual of Dao Night Balm with shea butter and Yi Yi Ren. Both products are developed in relation to their relative Eastern rituals to nourish and moisturize the hands.

ABOUT THE BRAND: Rituals is an international men's and women's bath and body brand initially developed in the Netherlands. The company aims to honor global beauty rituals through its wide range of personal care and fragrance products.

The Ritual of Ayurveda Hand ScrubRitual of Ayurveda Hand Scrub

USE: The Ritual of Ayurveda Hand Scrub is made with Ginseng and Gingko Biloba oils. Its micro-crystals help to exfoliate dry skin and dirt while its hydrating oils deeply moisturize nails, skin and cuticles.

AROMA & TEXTURE: I don't really detect much of an aroma with the product but the texture is a thick exfoliant similar to a salt scrub. I was surprised by how much oil is present in the product; after I washed the scrub off my hands I also needed to towel off some of the excess oil. That being said, my hands were definitely exfoliated and hydrated after use.

INGREDIENTS: HYDROGENATED POLY-DECENE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, ISOPROPYL MYRISTATE, CALCIUM STEARATE, HYDROGENATED STYRENE/ISOPRENE CO-POLYMER, SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CYCLOPENTASI-LOXANE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CAPRYLIC/-CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, PHENOXYETHA-NOL, STEARIC ACID, SODIUM METHYL COCOYL TAURATE, POLYSORBATE 80, PALMITIC ACID, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, AQUA/WATER, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, PANAX GINSENG (ROOT) EXTRACT, GINKGO BILOBA LEAF EXTRACT, LINALOOL, BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL, COU-MARIN, HEXYL CINNAMAL, LIMONENE

PROS & CONS: The product contains no parabens or mineral oil and the scent was basically imperceptible. The brand does not test on animals and actively discourages third-parties from doing so on their behalf. The product surely does what it claims to do. Though indicated for hands, this product would likely be great on feet or any other rough areas.

The price is on the high side considering similar products and it does leave hands slightly greasy; that being said, a little goes a long way.

Reviews are overehlmingly positive. For example, "I have a few different hand scrubs and I think this one is my favourite. It's especially gerat for revitalizing my hands in the dead of winter! Unlike many other brands this product leaves a hydrating film on your hands after you wash them. (Some people might not like this but I do) It leaves your hands very silky and soft. Has a lovely scent as well!" Glossybox.com

By contast, one reviewer wrote, "I want to love this product. The concept, the fragrance are both attractive. My friends, that used it really liked it, but I have sensitive skin and got a bit of a rash after using it." Glossybox.com

Ritual of Dao Night BalmThe Ritual of Dao Night Balm

USE: The Ritual of Dao Night Balm has been specially developed to soothe and soften the skin and cuticles. Dry hands are transformed thanks to the ingredient Shea Butter.

AROMA & TEXTURE: The Night Balm combines a subtle floral scent of White Lotus with the skin-soothing qualities of the Chinese herb Yi Yi Ren, used in traditional Chinese medicine. The texture is like a thick gel but applies easily and dries quickly. It didn't leave any kind of oily residue. The aroma was subtle and becomes imperceptible in minutes.

INGREDIENTS: HYDROGENATED POLY-DECENE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, ISOPROPYL MYRISTATE, CALCIUM STEARATE, HY-DROGENATED STYRENE/ISOPRENE CO-POLYMER, SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CYCLOPENTASI-LOXANE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CAPRYLIC/-CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, PHENOXYETHA-NOL, STEARIC ACID, SODIUM METHYL COCOYL TAURATE, POLYSORBATE 80, PALMITIC ACID, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, AQUA/WATER, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, PANAX GINSENG (ROOT) EXTRACT, GINKGO BILOBA LEAF EXTRACT, LINALOOL, BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL, COU-MARIN, HEXYL CINNAMAL, LIMONENE

PROS & CONS: The product contains no parabens or mineral oil and the scent was pleasant though subtle. The brand does not test on animals and actively discourages third-parties from doing so on their behalf. The product surely does what it claims to do. Though indicated for hands, this product would likely be great on feet or any other rough areas.

The price is on the high side considering similar products; that being said, a little goes a long way.

As the product is so new, there are no external reviews in English at this time.
