The house of Chanel presents a gorgeous new collection inspired by its cult classic nail polish shade – the Rouge Noir. The Vamp nail polish, originally named Rouge Noir, is a gorgeous dark red, blackened shade created by Chanel back in 1995. The Rouge Noir was, at one point, Chanel's most successful release and it was, at the turn of the millennium, named the fifth bestselling nail polish in the world.

This extraordinary hue, created by Dominique Moncourtois, is regarded as one of the most revolutionary beauty products of the nineties. It opened a new chapter in the makeup industry, by bringing dark, non-traditional colors to the mainstream stage. The shade was originally developed for Karl Lagerfeld, who wanted to have a dark yet feminine shade that would show up in the black and white photos for his 1995 Spring/Summer prêt-à-porter collection... Since Moncourtois didn't have such a shade, he improvised with an ordinary nail polish covered with black marker ink and a clear top coat. It instantly became a must have!
