Here is a first look at the much awaited NARS Guy Bourdin collection! The famous beauty brand is diving into the art once again, driving its inspiration from the works of the photographer Guy Bourdin.
Bourdin is one of the major influencers of François Nars, and photos of this renowned artist have already been used for NARS’s campaigns in 2005, 2007 and 2011. The new collection, which will launch on Oct. 15 in NARS boutiques and on narscosmetics.com, is a creator’s homage to Bourdin and his magical world. Bourdin is regarded as one of the most important fashion photographers of the twentieth century. His career started back in 1955, when a couple of his first fashion photographs appeared in the February issue of Vogue Paris. His sensual, and even surrealistic photographs are pregnant with odd and mysterious narratives, distinguished by very provocative, erotic and even violent motifs. The distinctive atmosphere of his works is now transfused with 16 new limited edition stockkeeping units, accompanied by the Exhibit A blush, which is already a part of NARS’s permanent lineup.
The NARS Guy Bourdin collection is described as vividly colored range with reformulated eye shadow and lipstick formulas. The brand will introduce its new Cinematic Eyeshadow and Cinematic Lipstick, with high-pearl metallic color payoff for the lids, and extra glossy lip formula. The eye and lip products are intended to replicate what the chief executive officer of NARS Cosmetics – Louis Desazars – dubbed “the saturated, cinematic Bourdin look.” The new eye shadow formula is priced at $24, while the lipstick retails at $26. In addition, NARS will offer four new nail polish shades, $19 each, and blushes for $29.
NARS Guy Bourdin collection debuts at Nars boutiques and on narscosmetics.com in the middle of the next month, before it becomes available at Sephora, department and specialty store doors on Nov. 1st. November will also see the launch of a special Bourdin-inspired gifting collection, which includes eight makeup kits. Nars named these products by choosing his own evocative names for Bourdin’s photos. The interesting thing is that Bourdin himself never titled his works. The kits are named One Night Stand Cheek Palette, $65; Promiscuous Mini Lip Coffret, $45 (both Sephora exclusives); Fling Lip Kit, $49; Crime of Passion Face Kit, $59; Beautiful Stranger Nail Polish Coffret, $35; Voyeur, Mini Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner Coffret, $49; and Splendor in the Grass Cheek Palette, $49. In addition, NARS has created a festive Cosmetic Pouchette with a heart design, which retails at $75.
