NARS has just announced another strategic collaboration inspired by Francois Nars’s artistic muse Guy Bourdin.

The new collection is scheduled for release in November and it will be issued in a limited edition. Bourdin was a famous French fashion photographer who influenced the artistic work of Francois Nars who is not only a creator of the namesake cosmetics brand but also a make-up artist and photographer. Nars started his first advertising campaign in 1996, by making all the photography for the ads himself. His makeup brand, now owned by Shiseido, has already released a collection inspired by Andy Warhol, and the following one only continues the same line of inspiration. The range will be released under a license with Art + Commerce on behalf of Bourdin’s estate.

The company spokesmen said that the new makeup collection will “evoke the Parisian fashion photographer’s ambitious, provocative work.” The exact details have not been released yet, but the range is said to include new formulas, shades and packaging designs based on Bourdin’s photography.

The Nars Guy Bourdin Collection will be released in November 2013, just before the holiday season. The company’s website states that NARS will debut two new additions to the 413 BLKR collection in the powerfully provocative spirit of Guy Bourdin. The SILVER ODYSSEY limited-edition collection by Francois Nars (featuring Via Crispi Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner and Space Odyssey Nail Polish) was also inspired by Bourdin’s work. The campaign visual for this collection was a photo taken from Bourdin’s artistic archives. Guy Louis Bourdin was born 1928, in Paris. His first fashion photos were published in Vogue Paris in 1995, where he continued to work until 1987. In the early career, he used the pseudonym Edwin Hallan. He was one of the most prominent fashion photographers of the late 20th century and he collaborated with Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, Chanel, Issey Miyake, Emanuel Ungaro,Gianni Versace, Loewe, Pentax and Bloomingdale's, among the others. His work is often described as strange, mysterious, surrealistic, exotic, provocative, shocking… Bourdin died in 1991, aged 62.
